CORVETTE C1 GASSER
Nick Marshall stood right at the vibrant core of the golden age of American hot-rodding when he packed up and headed west to California to chase his ultimate obsession with drag racing and seek out his idol Bones Balogh. At the center of this relentless pursuit was a stunning 1958 Chevrolet Corvette built into a fierce, no-compromise Gasser designed to terrorize the local quarter-mile strips. The deep connection to legendary camshaft pioneer Ed Isky Iskenderian pulsed through the entire project, as Isky solid flat tappet cams and high-performance engineering fueled the beast. The sleek bodywork proudly displayed the J and J Mufflers graphics on the sides, and once it was locked in that Bones Balogh would also share the driving duties, the names of both drivers were added to the side fenders while the color shifted from brown to purple. Featuring a massive roots-type supercharger punching through the hood and a straight-axle front conversion engineered for maximum weight transfer, this Corvette was a masterclass in raw power and mechanical ingenuity. When military duty called and Nick Marshall had to serve in the United States Navy, his close friend and racing confidant Bones Balogh seamlessly stepped into the driver seat to pilot the machine across the southern California tracks. Following Marshalls return and their continued exploits in the local gas coupe and sedan classes, Marshall eventually transitioned into elite territory, cementing his legendary status as the fearless pilot of top fuel dragsters under the unforgettable moniker Slick Nick.
